Original text written in 2011:

The Institute for Imagined Futures & Unknown Lands is a post-apocalyptic research unit based in the future, studying the past which is actually the present.

Research of the Institute is transdisciplinary; incorporating anthropology, ecology, art, archaeology, philosophy, social sculpture and phenomenology.

Working with images, dreams and inner landscapes, the time travelling Institute focuses on how we vision the future and how we work with the idea of ‘Imagined Futures & Unknown Lands’.

Research can take the form of  actions, images, maps, events, publications, journeys and discussion with an ongoing enquiry into finding new forms to embody questions and explorations.

The Institute for Imagined Futures & Unknown Lands is currently led by researcher Fern Thomas, with plans underway to expand our network of practitioners (more details to follow).

The Institute is in the process of being revived and re-formed and re-located to the Springtides Archipelago, an imagined set of islands.
